QuickSpot

Developer: Namco Publisher: Namco Bandai
Release Date: March 13, 2007 Also On: None

Do you remember those old worksheets where there'd be two pictures and you had to circle the differences between them? Imagine that concept fleshed out into a DS game, and you've got Quickspot, Namco-Bandai's upcoming brain game for the DS. Releasing March 13, it looks to bring young gamers and casual gamers into the brain game craze.

Featuring a multitude of modes, from modes where you have to find one difference really quickly to modes where you have to find ten differences as fast as possible, and also containing multiplayer modes, Quickspot looks to be a game that can be good for short periods as well as long periods of time, a good asset in a handheld game. It even includes some multiplayer modes that can be played by passing one DS around, thus removing the need for having a system for each player. But there are other modes where players will try to do things to other players to mess them up. Every conceivable variation on the "identify the differences between the pictures" concept seems to be present here.

Quickspot is rated E10, which does mean that some images were removed from the Japenese version in the localization effort. However, Quickspot will have images featuring characters from notable Namco franchises such as Pac-Man, Mr. Driller, Katamari Damacy, and Ridge Racer, among others. Overall, it sounds like it will be a fine addition to the brain game genre, and I look forward to seeing if everything turns out as well as the potential seems to indicate it will.
