Kill.switch is the GBA port of the solid FPS that hit the PS2/Xbox/PC last year. It is hard for me to remember a game who's GBA port has been actually better than the original 128-bit game, and sadly, Kill.switch is no exception. In its own right, though, Kill.switch is still a good game.
Playing as a man named Bishop, you basically have to kill a ton of enemy while getting from point X to point Y. The game mainly focuses on how you get from point to point more than anything else. If you go openly through the streets, then you'll have a 99% chance of being shot. The point really is to hide behind the enemy's own possessions (crates, vehicles, walls, etc.) and kill them when they are not looking. Each mission is enormous in addition to the fact that each one allows you to beat it 2-4 different ways. That's really the strongest point in this game, but that is not to say that Kill.switch doesn't have any other redeeming qualities. If the normal single player mode bores you, then go play the time trial mode or the zombie mode (a mode where the enemies respawn quickly).
Comparing it to the original game for the PC, I found this game has surprisingly similar moves. Bishop could attack, roll, crouch, and hide both in the PC and GBA versions. I thought this was a great touch, but I did feel some problems with the GBA's control pad. It felt awkward for the first few hours, but eventually, I did get used to it. However, I really could never get the hang of aiming, which I blame Nintendo's design of the GBA.
As for graphics, I thought they were good. The 3D graphics engine was nice, but I did come across some slowdowns. I'd actually say that this game would be near perfect on the N-Gage or Zodiac. Not only the control problems would decrease, but the graphics slowdowns would also stop. The audio is also well done. I loved it when the enemy soldiers yelled, 'Intruder!' and then I killed them all.
Replay value is the key for this game. Estimating, I'd say I got a good 8 hours out of this game. This game gets a little stale after a while, but what handheld FPS doesn't? Sadly, there is no multiplayer option. It would have been very nice for a deathmatch mode, also. I probably could have gotten a couple more hours out of this game, but hey, imagine how slow the game would play if they added those modes.
Kill.switch is pretty fine game, but the technical and control issues along with the lack of real length really hurt the game. Like I said, this game would have been near perfect if they ported this game to the N-Gage or Zodiac (hey, it is a port of a port of a port). Noticing that this game isn't as expensive as most other new GBA games, I openly suggest getting this game if you are looking for a nice tactical shooter.
