Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel

Developer: Konami Publisher: Konami
Release Date: April 15, 2003 Also On: None

There are so many different card games out there to play, from Pokemon to Magic, there are so many companies trying to get you to buy their cards and play their games, but none of them are more exciting than Yugioh. The original Yugioh Game Eternal Duelist Soul was a big seller for the GBA. You would think its sequel would be too. Well, it is, but it doesn’t really capture Eternal Duelist Soul nearly as much as some may have hoped.

There aren’t many animations in the game at all, making Konami focus mainly on how everything looks in the game. It all looks pretty good and there aren’t any real errors that are noticeable. All that the characters in the game do is move their mouths and there is some flashy backgrounds that move, but that’s really it.

Sound is pretty basic. There are some fighting sound effects, along with different music for each person you duel. This is really only standard for the GBA.

Gameplay wise, Yugioh is pretty basic, if you know the rules of the card game. However, if you don’t, trying to win duels could take a while, plus, it is too easy to cheat in this game, since you can just look up the codes on the bottom of any Yugioh card and put them into the game. Also, sometimes it is impossible to draw the cards you need during heated duels. Simplifying your deck helps, but still doesn’t make a difference.

Basically, Stairway to the Destined Duel is really only a minor upgrade from Eternal Duelist Soul. In fact, the only thing that is different is that you can put new cards into the game, but that’s really it, plus some new duelists to face are added as well.

Overall, you could play this game for hours and get absolutely no where in the game. It takes forever to beat which can be a good thing, but it could also drive you madly insane trying to do it. This is worth buying only if you’re into the whole duel monsters thing. If not, don’t bother picking up this Yugioh title.
