Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

Developer: Io Interactive Publisher: Eidos
Release Date: October 02, 2002 Also On: GCN, PC, PS2, & Xbox

The latest console videogame craze squarely takes aim at the Sopranos addicted mafia buff because it so conveniently blends action, violence, and storyline into one neat, convenient, playable package. This game is the definition of what an assassin is all about. Finishing the job that the mob bosses started.

At times, I was impressed and at others, I was disappointed. Overall, Hitman 2 looks solid with certain scenes looking fantastic. Your character looks great and the environments do as well. The problems lie in the enemies that you encounter during your mission. They look terrible; nothing compared to the greatness of everything else. Main characters/ your targets look good though.

Everything is quiet most of the time since before people say anything, you have killed them. But the guns sound incredibly real as a silenced pistol or machine gun could ever be I guess. There is some talking as you walk the halls in disguise. Everything sounds great when it's there.

This is a true mob game with the bald guy in a suit with a pistol to back it up. Nothing comes close to an assassin game. Everything is just different. Hitman is a third person shooter that plays almost like an RPG or strategy type game. You make the decision on the way you want to what you gotta do. The game is simple to control. Easy with gun battles, but the battles with building environment kill you. Cameras everywhere watching your moves. You gotta be sure not to make a mistake before your mission is complete. This can be an easy and fun game, or a difficult and frustrating game. It's your choice on how you play it.

Silent Assassin doesn't seem like that long of a game, but the missions take forever. The missions are fun though. They seem to just suck you right into the mob world. The game had some great spy techniques and intelligent, but bad looking, enemies to use them against. With over 20 hours of game play full of assassinations and terminations, it will keep you occupied for months to come.
