Spy Hunter 2

Developer: Midway Publisher: Midway
Release Date: November 17, 2003 Also On: GCN, PS2, & Xbox

It's hunt or be hunted in Midway's new installment in the spy hunter series Spy Hunter 2. When Midway brought about the transition from its 2D form to the new 3D environment I was rather impressed by how it stayed pretty true to the concept of the original Spy Hunter. Whether or not the Spy Hunter 2 is as good, better, or worse than its predecessor you will have to read to see.

The spy hunter series has never been very heavy on the story line, and Spy Hunter 2 is no different. Your character, Alec Sects is after NOSTRA an evil spy organization bent on world domination. Does this story line sound familiar? Obviously this game is not big on story line like I stated, but spy hunter seems to pull this off. They are able to do this because the first spy hunter was the same unsubtle objectives in most cases kill the enemy don't get killed

There are many new additions in Spy Hunter 2; one of these new features is the G-8155 Interceptor and it's ability to transform. The G-8155 Interceptor has the ability to transform to for all terrain such as the 4x4 mode for off road missions or when you are on ice and the aqua the mode for water missions or when you run into water. Also your vehicle has the ability to explode sending a wave that destroys all enemies around and launches your escape bike. The escape bike launches when your Interceptor is extremely damaged and also has the ability to change while on different terrains as well.

Spy Hunter 2 doesn't really offer up to much in the way of graphics. The environments are really unimaginative they often give you the feeling that you have seen them before. The Interceptor is well designed as well as the enemy vehicles. The only thing that really puts a mark on the graphics on this game are the environments which could have used some more polish.

Spy Hunter 2's new features and challenges make this a very interesting game. With new levels other than just driving through and surviving they are making this game much more like most next gen games. Not to mention the addition of the new features such as the Interceptors transforming ability and customizable weapons set ups that let you take control of the way you really want to play. All in all I would have to say that Spy Hunter 2 is better than the first and if you like driving combat games then this game merits at the least a rent.
