19 Reasons to Buy a Wii: #3

The Nintendo Wii is about to launch on November 19, 2006. Between now and then, Game Freaks 365 is going to list 19 reasons each day for why you should buy a Wii.

#3 The Wiimote – When Nintendo showed off the controller for the Wii at the Tokyo Game Show last fall, then code-named Revolution, it sent shockwaves through the crowd and indeed the industry. The “controller”, which was rumored to have anywhere from a touch-screen to pressure sensitivity, was nothing more than your standard television remote. What Nintendo showed us in actual gameplay by E3 2006 was that this “Wiimote” had motion sensors and a tiny speaker. This enables you to play in 360 degrees of freedom. By simply flicking your wrist or motioning with your arm a swipe of a sword, the Wiimote will allow you to simulate gaming situations better than any controller in the past. Even though Sony denies the claim, your idea must be good when the industry leader adopts it, as Sony put motion-sensing in their “SixAxis” PlayStation 3 controller.
