Record-breaking 4.8 million players played Sea of Thieves in June

Sea of Thieves

Aaron Greenberg and Joe Neate announced on Twitter that Rare’s hit Xbox game Sea of Thieves had its best month ever in June.

On June 22, the A Pirate’s Life update was released for Sea of Thieves, bringing a plethora of new objectives inspired by Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean world. It includes some of its most recognizable characters, such as the charming Captain Jack Sparrow and the terrifying Davy Jones.

Rare and Aaron Greenberg from the Xbox game marketing team have revealed that, for the month of June alone, this free update has raised the number of players in their pirate adventure game to a record-breaking 4.8 million active users. That’s a whole lot of swashbuckling!

“To all of you who’ve recently cast off for the very first time, jumped back in after a break or simply never stepped away from your regular Voyages, thank you from all of us and we hope that Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life (and the surprise of its unveiling!) was everything you could have wanted from a crossover on this scale,” said Sea of Thieves executive producer Joe ‘Three Sheets’ Neate.

Even though the game reached a very high peak in June, the month of July appears to have seen a decline on Twitch and YouTube. We have to wait for the release of these numbers to see how things changed between these two months.
