Back button attachment announced for PS4’s DualShock 4 controller

DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment

Sony just announced the Back Button Attachment, a new peripheral that attaches to the bottom of a DualShock 4 controller.

The Back Button Attachment allows you to remap up to 16 different actions, including face buttons like triangle and circle, as well as triggers like R1 and R2. The attachment also has an integrated OLED display that provides information on button assignments.

“Its sleek design, with two programmable and highly tactile back buttons, allows you to utilize more of your hand to shorten your response time and gives you more flexibility in competitive gameplay,” Sony says.

The DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment allows you to save up to three different profiles and includes a passthrough for connecting a 3.5mm wired headset. The attachment works with all PS4 and PlayStation VR titles.

It’s interesting that Sony is releasing this attachment less than a year before the release of PS5. We have yet to see the DualShock 5 controller design. Does this signal that the DS5 will have a Back Button Attachment integrated? Quite possibly.

The Back Button Attachment will retail for $29.99. It launches on January 23, 2020.
