Beast Quest is out tomorrow on Nintendo Switch

The action-adventure Beast Quest is out tomorrow on Nintendo Switch. The game was previously released on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.

The game comes from developer Torus Games and is based on the children’s fantasy book series of the same name. The book series has sold nearly 20 million copies worldwide since 2007.

At first glance, the game looks similar to a Legend of Zelda game, but that impression is deceiving. The game draws its inspiration heavily from the universe found in the over one hundred children’s books in the series.

Beast Quest “brings the series’ characters and world alive like never before,” the developer says, promising to take players on “an epic journey to save the mythical land of Avantia from ruin. Dark magic has corrupted the towering, noble creatures of the realm, which players must overcome in action-packed boss battles – dodging, blocking and countering attacks while chaining combos and unleashing allies to turn the tide of combat.”

Unfortunately, reviewers don’t agree with the developer’s description of an “epic journey.” While we don’t yet have reviews of the Switch build, the PS4 version only averaged a 33 out of 100 at review aggregator Metacritic. It’s hard to imagine that the Switch version will fare much better, but who knows?

Beast Quest will be available digitally on the Nintendo eShop starting on October 1, 2019.
