You know a game is good when you put your controller down and immediately want to pick it back up. That is exactly what Marvel Rivals is doing to us. Having spent copious amounts of time on the game since its release, we have garnered the best Tips and Tricks you need to excel at the game.
These tips will range from settings to hero-specific tips, so make sure to go through every single pointer to truly master the game.

Settings Tips
The game offers a wide range of customization options, so you can customize the settings to tailor the game to your experience.
Crosshair Customization
In Marvel Rivals, crosshair customization allows players to personalize their aiming experience for optimal performance. You can access the crosshair customization by going to Settings>Keyboard>Reticle. Here are the key ways you can adjust your crosshair in the game:
- Shape and Style: Players can modify the shape of the crosshair, choosing between circular, dot, or traditional cross designs.
- Color Customization: The crosshair color can be adjusted to improve visibility against different backgrounds. Popular choices include bright neon colors for high contrast.
- Size and Thickness: The size and thickness of the crosshair can be scaled up or down, enabling better precision or broader visibility depending on player preference.
- Dynamic Reticle Options: You can enable or disable dynamic crosshairs, which adjust in size based on movement or firing, providing visual feedback on accuracy.
- Opacity Control: Adjust the transparency of the crosshair to avoid distractions while keeping it noticeable enough during gameplay.
- Outline Settings: Add or remove outlines to the crosshair to ensure it stands out against varying environments.
These settings are accessible in the game’s settings menu under the reticle or crosshair customization tab. Fine-tuning these can enhance gameplay, particularly for players focusing on competitive modes.
Turn Off Easy Swing/Automatic Swing
Venom and Spider-Man can web swing through every map using their ability. However, the game keeps a feature called Easy Swing for Venom and Automatic Swing for Spider-Man switched on. It allows your character to automatically select a grappling point, extend a web line, and swing. While that sounds super easy and intuitive, you leave out features that you would otherwise never know you could do.
After you turn off Easy Swing, Venom/Spider-Man will only grapple to surfaces that you aim your crosshair at. This allows you to do different maneuvers by moving your crosshair. Spidey will follow your crosshair while attached to the grapple point like a pendulum. The easy swing would never let you do these moves and doing them will also keep your enemies second-guessing your position. If you get good at the swing mechanic, you can outpace flying heroes like Iron Man with no problems.
You can also web zip with the swing by simply aiming at a grapple point and clicking the ability. If you don’t move your crosshair, Spidey and Venom will zip to that point. This trick is especially useful if you are running away from… Ahem… “sticky” situations.
Wall Climb Settings
Change the wall climb settings to follow crosshair. This will make the wall climbing easier as all you have to do is change the direction of your crosshair while holding forward. Your character will automatically follow the crosshair. This makes wall climbing especially easier on controllers.
Gameplay Tips
These gameplay tips will help you learn the game a little better or help you hit your shots a little more often!
Map Awareness
Learn the maps thoroughly, including key choke points, health pack locations, and high-ground areas. This knowledge helps in positioning and taking strategic control during matches. Not only that but make sure to constantly use Chrono Vision to find destructible areas in a map. Not only can you find unique angles to hit your enemies from but you will also be able to find alternate routes to your main objective. You can also destroy structures where enemies may be camping in.
You’ll also learn where all the health pick-ups are so that you can make a quick retreat whenever you are at low health. Speaking of low health…
Critical Health Audio Queue
When you are being hit and getting hit hard, you’ll hear an audio queue that will tell you when you are in critical health. This is basically there to let you know TO GET THE HELL OUT OF THE FIGHT!
Get to cover, your healer, or the nearest health orb, and then jump back into the fight.
Damage Fall Off
Damage fall-off is a key mechanic yet hidden mechanic that affects the performance of ranged attacks, ensuring that weapons deal less damage as the distance between you and your target increases. For instance, certain hitscan weapons like Punisher’s Assault Rifle have their damage reduced significantly beyond a specific range. For example, one weapon starts experiencing fall-off at 23 meters, reducing its damage per projectile from 18 to a minimum of 11 over greater distances. This mechanic encourages players to choose their engagements wisely based on their hero’s effective range.
Different weapons and abilities handle damage fall-off uniquely. For example, shotguns suffer from severe fall-off at long ranges, which, when combined with weapon spread, makes them ineffective for distant targets. Conversely, some abilities or weapons, like AoE attacks, do not experience damage fall-off, maintaining their full damage potential regardless of distance. Understanding these nuances is essential for optimizing your strategy and positioning in battles.
Always Peek From The Right
Peeking from the right side in first-person and third-person shooter games like Marvel Rivals is advantageous due to how camera and weapon mechanics interact with visibility and cover. Most games position the player’s weapon on the right side of the screen, and the field of view aligns slightly to the right of the character. This means that when peeking from the right side of the cover, a player can expose less of their body while maintaining a clear view of the target. This minimizes the player’s vulnerability compared to peeking from the left side, where more of the character is exposed before the target is visible.
Furthermore, in games with tighter field-of-view setups, peeking from the right maximizes the angle advantage since the camera’s focal point aligns naturally with right-handed perspectives. Players exploiting this mechanic gain a split-second advantage to aim or react, as they are less exposed while seeing more of the environment. This is especially critical in competitive play where reaction times matter significantly.
Momentum Carry Over
With every movement character there are some special things you can do that will let you carry your momentum further than normally intended. For example, when you use Punisher’s Zipline, you can jump off the zip rail just as it is ending to go further than using the ability alone.
You can also do this with Spider-Man while swinging. If you jump off of your web at the apex of your swing you will go flying in your enemy’s direction at fast speed. You can even add a bunny hop at the end to keep the momentum going even further.
Jump Strafe
The best kind of strafing in this game is jump strafing. Because this game does not have “precise gunplay” like some others, you can comfortably jump away from attacks while continuously hitting your enemy. This is especially useful if you are using a melee character like Spider-Man as you can double jump over your enemy’s head and hit them from the back. It is usually a lot harder to turn around and continue your onslaught so this mechanic is perfect.
