Best crime video games that aren’t GTA

When someone says crime games, the Grand Theft Auto games instantly come to mind. But there are other great crime games that deserve your attention. So here are eight crime video games that aren’t GTA.

Scarface: The World Is Yours

Scarface was one of the best crime movies from the ’80s. This game is kind of a sequel to the movie. I’d recommend watching the movie before playing this game. The game is similar to GTA in many ways, but it really shines in the combat department, in my opinion. You can taunt your enemies like Tony does in the movies. You can go into a blind rage and just plain refuse to die. This is an underappreciated game, so be sure to check it out.

Sleeping Dogs

Here’s another underrated gem. This game is set in Hong Kong, and you’re an undercover policeman infiltrating the mafia known as the Triads. The city of Hong Kong is very well built and there are tons of activities for you to take part in. The melee combat system of this game is masterful and violent. Don’t miss this!

Yakuza franchise

This is one of my favorite franchises. Each and every game has a beautiful story and tons of activities to take part in. Exploring the beautifully created locations of Japan as you progress through the epic and cinematic story never gets old.

Mafia franchise

Playing the Mafia games is like living through a Martin Scorsese movie. It’s epic, gritty, violent, and beautiful. You play as a member of the Sicilian mob in the first two games, and in the third, you play as a person who takes over other businesses and expands his empire. The original Mafia game recently got remade as Mafia: Definitive Edition. Play it first and then move on to the next titles.

Fallout New Vegas

Now, this might be a surprise entry on this list, Fallout is not usually a crime game. But in New Vegas, power is everything. There’s no one stopping you from becoming the most feared crime lord in the Mojave wasteland.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate

In AC Syndicate, you’re literally a leader of a crime syndicate. It’s right there in the name. Work your way to the top as you explore London and take over other turfs. This game is set in the 19th century so there are guns to use in the game as well.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 tells a tragic and epic story of a gang of thieves who are trying to adapt to the civilized world as the 20th century arrives. This game was developed by Rockstar, the same people who developed GTA, so you know what you can expect.

Cyberpunk 2077

This game is similar to GTA in a lot of ways, but this is an action role-playing game. The whole city of Night City is bustling with crime and you can contribute to that. Being an RPG, there obviously are multiple ways to play this game. You can be a criminal in-game if you want to!
