2021 was a good year for gaming, despite the ongoing pandemic that upended the development of a number of different games. These are some of the best Nintendo Switch games of 2021.
Metroid Dread
Let’s start this list off with a classic Nintendo game. The Metroid franchise is an old and iconic name in gaming. Its protagonist, Samus Aran is largely beloved by many people, including those who haven’t played the games. In Metroid Dread, you’re back in the shoes of Samus Aran in her escape from an alien world. Of course, this new game looks very good compared to the older titles. Metroid Dread is also a Nintendo Switch exclusive game 2D game.
Monster Hunter Rise
Capcom’s Monster Hunter: Rise was very well received and loved upon its release in 2021. It was even nominated for the best RPG of the year. If you aren’t familiar with this franchise, it’s all about exploration and slaying huge monsters that are a hundred times larger than you. The weapons you wield in this game are heavy and rugged. It’s really a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s hardcore and over-the-top in nature. There is a multitude of quests to complete and gain experience.
If you’re a fan of exceptional combat systems and exploration, I highly recommend Rise. Plus, you do not own a Switch, you can now play the game on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. It is also available on Xbox Game Pass.
Little Nightmares II
If you’ve played the first Little Nightmares game, you might know of its suspenseful and eerie nature. Little Nightmares II continues that quaint tradition in a great way. In this game, you play as Mono, who is trapped in an odd and scary world. This is a 2D platformer type of game, like its predecessor. The story and atmosphere of the first Little Nightmares were really good, and the same can be said about this sequel.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
Ace Attorney is a popular name in gaming because of the memes it inspired and of course, the overall goodness of the game. In The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, there is The Great Ace Attorney Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve. These games were previously only available in Japan, but thanks to Chronicles, it now has English localization. This visual novel game duology is a must-play for mystery game/movie fans. There are a lot of thrilling and suspenseful moments throughout.
Death’s Door
Devolver Digital’s Death’s Door is a mysterious and atmospheric game where you need to track and slay colossal tyrants. That sounds similar to the Shadow of the Colossus games but this has differences. It’s a top-down indie game that’s non-linear and open-ended. If you’re a fan of the old top-down Zelda games, I highly encourage you to play this gem.
