Call of Duty: Black Ops

Best single-player campaigns in games

Call of Duty: Black Ops is what many players consider to be the best story in a COD game. And it’s not far from the truth. Black Ops’s story is just magnificent. There are a lot of twists and great a plotline. As for the gameplay, it’s what you would expect from an FPS game. It has a lot of action-packed, thrilling, and beautiful missions set in various locations, including Vietnam in the 1960s.

Metro: Last Light Redux

Best single-player campaigns in games

Metro Last Light is an FPS game set in post-apocalyptic Russia. The game is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky novels. Last Light Redux is the remastered and improved version of the original game, and it’s such a great title. If you want to play it in chronological order, play Metro 2033 first and then Last Light. There are horror elements and stealth elements. Also, the game has good gun customization, and there are story choices to make as well.

If you like post-apocalyptic FPS games, we also recommend the free-to-play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly.

Titanfall 2

Best single-player campaigns in games

Titanfall 2‘s single-player campaign is the very definition of short and sweet. It focuses on heavy action and fantastic gunplay, making it one of the best and most fun shooters ever. You can also pilot the titular Titans, huge mechs which can annihilate enemies and obstacles. The game’s mission design is beautiful and there are lots of memorable moments. Definitely give this game a try if you haven’t. There is no reason not to play this gem.

BioShock Infinite

BioShock Infinite was the last game of the brilliant BioShock franchise and it’s as great as its predecessors. Maybe even more impressive. This game features the most beautiful setting in the franchise and it has the most polished gameplay. The characters and the story are very complex and philosophical. You will need to play it a few more times to fully understand it, but the game won’t feel old at all. It’s just that good.

If you haven’t played the original BioShock and BioShock 2, play those as well. They are also magnificent. I recommend playing the remastered versions as part of BioShock: The Collection.

Doom Eternal

Doom Eternal is certainly the best game of the franchise. If someone said that it’s the best FPS action game of all time, well, that might also be true. In any case, DOOM Eternal’s combat is its real treat. There’s a literal arsenal of ultra-powerful firearms and gadgets that will let you Raze Hell. There’s platforming and exploration in the missions as well. Play both 2016’s DOOM and DOOM Eternal, because both of them are just great.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

2010’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was way, way ahead of its time. The amount of destruction and chaos that takes place in a battle is just mind-blowing. You will have to move from cover to cover to maintain your defense, because explosions will destroy everything, unlike in most games. Granted, almost all Battlefield games have destructible environments but Bad Company 2 did it the best. I also really think that it had the best story in a BF game.

Halo 3

Best single-player campaigns in games

If you are a long-time fan of the beautiful Halo franchise, you must know just how great Halo 3 is. The settings of missions, the story, and of course, the characters were just top-tier. It still holds out extraordinarily well even after so many more releases including the somewhat disappointing Halo Infinite.

Halo 3 is probably the best Halo campaign ever (although Kyle argues Halo: Reach is the best game in the franchise since Halo 2). Believe me, all games in the Halo universe have brilliant campaigns. The fact that Halo 3 stands above them say a lot.

Crysis

Crysis is probably a game you’ve heard about often because of its over-the-top gameplay and how graphically insane it looked in 2007. The game takes place on a beautiful tropical island where you have to uncover something the Korean military hides there. The way the story unfolds is something I love about Crysis, and there are lots of missions where you get to drive various vehicles and fight in them – including tanks. If you are going to play this today, I recommend playing Crysis Remastered.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger

Best single-player campaigns in games

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a Western action FPS game with a beautiful and unique art style. The battles in this game are chaotic and fast-paced. There are a lot of guns to choose from and I can’t stress how much fun this game is. You’ll probably replay this because of its fantastic gunplay and the duels. These duels are the best gunslinging duels ever in any video game. There are even famous gunslingers of the west in this game.

Dishonored

Dishonored is a bit different from the other games on this list. It’s a stealth FPS game set in a unique and masterfully-crafted world. There aren’t many guns in the game, but swords and crossbows among other tools for you to use. It’s set in the 18th century in a fictional state called Dunwall. The game is quite replayable as well because it has a lot of collectibles and different ways to complete missions.
