Best Upcoming Indie Games
These are our picks for the best upcoming indie games in 2023 and beyond. Because of the current state of many new AAA games, it’s reasonable that many gamers have learned to love more indie games and older games than before.
The indie game industry always manages to leave a good impression on players and critics alike. I hope these games will also prove to be compelling and fun. I will also link the Steam pages of the games so you can wishlist the ones you like.
So without further ado, let’s get right into it!
Animal Well

Animal Well is a 2D Metroidvania platformer from indie developer Shared Memory and publisher Big Mode. If you’re a fan of the popular YouTuber VideoGameDunkey, you may have already heard of this game because Big Mode is his publishing company.
Featuring a pixelated visual style and dark yet atmospheric lighting, this game’s visuals alone are enough to attract many players to it. From the information we have at the time, it seems the game will focus on intricate and fun puzzles, non-linear gameplay, and exploration. Animal Well is set to release in 2024.

Bye Sweet Carole

Bye Sweet Carole is exactly the kind of game that I would personally adore. It’s a horror-thriller adventure game inspired by the works of Chris Darril, who created the Remothered games. Its art style is cartoony but gloomy, and it’s set in the world of Corolla.
You play as Lana Benton, who’s attempting to find the girl named Carole Simmons. In a world infested by bunnies, the horror elements of this game seem quite original. It’s set to release in 2024.

Mineko’s Night Market

Mineko’s Night Market is a narrative-driven adventure game developed by Meowza Games. It promises exploration, puzzles, and cats. By the looks of it, this game will definitely be a wholesome and relaxing experience that will be a great addition to many gamers’ libraries.
You play as Mineko, a girl who’d recently arrived in her new home, and you’re able to explore Japanese culture in a unique and aesthetically pleasant atmosphere. Mineko’s Night Market will release on September 26, 2023.

Venba

Venba is a rather unique game. It’s a story of an Indian family that moves to Canada. The gameplay consists of cooking a variety of South Indian dishes that you may not have even heard of before.
Its art style and overall atmosphere are wholesome and bright. Descriptions of the game say that there will be narrative-focused interactions within the family. I’m highly hopeful for this game, and I suggest that you keep it on your radar as well.

This Bed We Made

As a fan of all sorts of thriller media, I’m hyped for This Bed We Made. It’s a murder mystery thriller game set in the 1950s; you play as a housemaid in a hotel where a murder happened. It’s gritty and somewhat reminiscent of certain Alfred Hitchcock films.
This third-person game focuses a lot on its narrative, and its gameplay might not be a great point of attraction. It remains to be seen if the game will be as compelling as it sounds, but I have high hopes for it. It will release sometime in 2023.
