We can all agree that some of the best action/adventure movies of all time are the Indiana Jones films. Even if you’re not a fan of Indiana Jones, you’ve probably seen one of Steven Spielberg’s movies. So, when it was announced that Bethesda was making a game based on them, everyone was very surprised.
If you’re a fan of either Indiana Jones or Bethesda games, you might be excited to hear what Tom Howard had to say about this upcoming project. He mentioned in a recent interview with the media that “we’ll talk in a year.”
Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game could surprise us
The Indiana Jones game was announced in January 2021 with a teaser trailer that showed some clues about the setting and plot. The game is being developed by MachineGames, the studio behind the excellent Wolfenstein reboot series. The game will also be executive produced by Bethesda’s Todd Howard, who is also responsible for Starfield and the upcoming The Elder Scrolls VI.
But what can we expect from the gameplay and story of the Indiana Jones game? Well, according to Howard, the game will be a unique mash-up of different genres and elements that will make you feel like you are really playing as Indy.
Here’s what he said in an interview with Esquire magazine:
I’m a huge Indiana Jones fan. It can be brought to video games in a unique way. The game is obviously: you’re exploring things. It’s about him. So when you’re playing the game, how do you feel like you’re actually playing and not just watching?
Howard also hinted that the game will be revealed in 2024, telling the interviewer as he left his office that “we’ll talk next year.” This means that we still have a long way to go before we can see any gameplay footage or screenshots of the game. The focus is obviously still on Starfield.
However, we do know that the game will be an Xbox and PC exclusive thanks to Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda in 2021. This also means that the game will be available on Game Pass on day one, which is great news for subscribers.
New people in the works
The game will also have some talented people working on it, such as Jens Andersson, who was the director of The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness games.
He has joined MachineGames to lead the design of the game, according to a report from VGC. Andersson has experience in creating immersive and cinematic games with strong characters and stories, which is exactly what we want from an Indiana Jones game.
We can’t wait to see more of this game from Bethesda and MachineGames. Plus, we hope it captures the spirit and charm of the movies while offering some fresh and exciting gameplay mechanics and scenarios.
Also, it seems that the game will include some classic franchise elements such as puzzles, traps, chases, combat and, of course, Nazis. As Howard said: “They’ve got the whole Nazi killing thing down and they’re doing a really great job.”
