Bloomberg reporter confirms rumored name and location of next Assassin’s Creed game

Assassin's Creed Rift

Not only that, the possible arrival of Infinity and two possible new games in the series were also mentioned.

At the beginning of the last decade, Ubisoft was on everyone’s lips. From the releases of the best Assassin’s Creed games for many to the Just Dance games. Ubisoft was simply on another level. A sign of that? Every Assassin’s Creed game they released was a smash hit. But, ten years later, both Ubisoft and the AC video game saga have gone downhill.

Ubisoft’s 2022 calendar is largely barren of announced games and releases. This has made them resort once again to the saga that generates the most revenue for the company: Assassin’s Creed. Earlier this year Jason Schreier, a Bloomberg journalist, commented that Ubisoft would announce an AC game this year. Yesterday, he “confirmed” its name and where it is located.

“Confirmed rumors” from five months ago

It is no secret that Ubisoft, with respect to the Assassin’s Creed saga, is taking things slowly – in short, not to repeat the fiasco of 2014 that even Just Dance had bugs (the year of AC Unity). But this has penalized them a lot. In addition to the ravages of the pandemic, this has caused the catalog of releases and announcements for 2022 to be practically empty.

In February, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier talked about this problem. However, his words were accompanied by a small leak given by people close to the project of the next AC game. The code-named “Rift” (the next Assassin’s Creed game) was very little taken into account by the gaming community.

Yesterday, in response to a post on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours Subreddit, Schreier reemphasized the information about the next Assassin’s Creed game he gave earlier this year. This post on the Subreddit talked about a possible game in an Aztec historical setting. Schreier commented that this future game, which will be called “Rift,” will be set in Baghdad. It could be part of something called “Assassin’s Creed Universe.”

Rift, Infinity, and two more possible games

Schreier is no stranger to the world of rumors coming true. Years ago, he was among the first to talk about Origins and Odyssey. Yesterday, he was spot on with the information in his Subreddit post response. He mentions his old article, where he provides more information on this possible AC saga (or universe) title.

He also confirms that Rift will arrive before Assassin’s Creed Infinity. For those who haven’t heard about Infinity, it is a possible Assassin’s Creed service game based on different historical settings. This information was also shared by Bloomberg in 2021 but, in recent months, it has been associated with a possible exclusive release on Ubisoft+.

Not only this, but it also confirms that it has information regarding the upcoming main games in the series. None of them are based on an Aztec historical setting.

Possibly, part of this information about “Rift” and the next Assassin’s Creed games we will know in September of this year during the special event that Ubisoft prepares. In the meantime, PlayStation Plus subscribers can enjoy the large catalog of Assassin’s Creed games that have been added recently. All this is thanks to the already announced partnership between PlayStation and Ubisoft+.

My Take

This is still a rumor until Ubisoft confirms any of this information, but Jason Schreier has a lot of cred in the industry. We’ll see soon enough if this is accurate or not.
