Diablo: Immortal expected to launch in 2021

Diablo: Immortal

Blizzard has revealed that the mobile action-RPG Diablo: Immortal is expected to launch in 2021.

The news came courtesy of Activision Blizzard’s earnings announcement. The company beat Wall Street expectations, raking in over $2 billion in revenue for Q1 2021. But the news most relevant for gamers is that there are not one but two Diablo games coming out this year (Diablo II: Resurrected is the other one).

Diablo: Immortal gets a release window

We profiled Immortal earlier this year in a preview. The game is played on mobile devices using touch controls, so it’s basically unlike any game the franchise has ever seen. There’s no news on whether it will adopt a free-to-play model, but Activision has a history of it with games like Call of Duty Mobile and Crash Bandicoot: On the Run.

However, what we do know is that “Diablo Immortal entered its second phase of testing and is on track for global release later this year.” That’s the word directly from Activision Blizzard’s quarterly earnings report.

My Take

There are some key questions regarding price. The controls are another question mark, although I am not too concerned about it since dungeon crawlers handle relatively well on mobile devices. We shall see!
