Don’t Be Afraid is a new horror game where you play as a kidnapped child

Don't Be Afraid

One of my worst nightmares as a kid was being kidnapped. Don’t Be Afraid is a game that makes those nightmares a reality, at least in its virtual world.

You play as David, an 11-year old boy who has been kidnapped. The game has you solve puzzles that your kidnapper, Mr. Franklin, prepares for you “while desperately clinging to the last vestiges of your sanity.”

Everything in the mansion where you find yourself “has been designed to make you suffer,” says indie developer Hydra Games. The ultimate goal of the game is to escape.

The game draws inspiration from other indies like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Penumbra, and Layers of Fear. It has English voiceovers as well as subtitles in English or Polish.

You can learn more about the storyline in the prologue, Don’t Be Afraid: The First Toy. The prologue has you jump into the middle of a traumatic experience as Mr. Franklin’s previous victim. The prologue is free to download and has a 92% positive user score on Steam.

Don’t Be Afraid is coming to Steam on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
