Dragon Quest: Your Story

Dragon Quest: Your Story is now available to stream on Netflix in the United States.

The 3D computer-animated film is an adaptation of the 1992 Super Famicom role-playing game Dragon Quest V, which was originally released only in Japan. The game was first brought to the US almost two decades later as a Nintendo DS remake. It was also ported to Android and iOS devices.

As we previously reported, the film was released last year in Japan. It bombed, managing to rake in box office sales of $11.1 million on a budget of $18.5 million. It’s somewhat surprising that it is getting released in the US, although I suspect that the studio is likely just trying to recoup its losses.

Some have criticized the film for using big-name Japanese actors to do voice-acting. It is written and co-directed by Takashi Yamazaki. Ryuichi Yagi and Makoto Hanafusa also serve as co-directors. The film runs 1 hour and 42 minutes.

The Netflix release of the film has English, Spanish, French, German, and Japanese audio. It also has English, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese subtitles.
