DualShock 4 works on PlayStation 5 for PS4 games but not PS5 games

DualShock 4

Today, Sony announced PS4 accessory compatibility on PlayStation 5, including DualShock 4.

First off, we learned that DualShock 4 is supported on PlayStation 5, but it will only support backward compatible PS4 games. You’ll need the new DualSense controller to play PS5 games.

“We believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller,” SIE’s Isabelle Tomatis writes on PlayStation Blog.

Those features include haptic feedback and trigger resistance. Sony revealed the PS5 controller back in April. The DualSense controller has a two-toned black and white design. It has a built-in microphone, so you won’t need a headset.

Here are the other PS4 accessories that PS5 supports according to PlayStation Blog:

  • Officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.
  • Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, work on PS5.
  • The PlayStation Move motion controllers work with supported PSVR games on PS5.
  • PlayStation Camera works with supported PSVR games.

Are you disappointed that PS5 games won’t support DualShock 4 controllers? Are you glad that PS5 still supports PlayStation Camera and PS Move? Let us know your thoughts!
