Duke Nukem Forever Future in Doubt as 3D Realms Closes

The future of a game that has been in development for what seems like eternity is in doubt today. 3D Realms is shutting their doors and with it hope for a release of Duke Nukem Forever. In a statement to GameSpot, Take-Two confirmed that they retain publishing rights to the game – assuming it gets finished by another developer.

While 3D Realms has not made a public announcement about its closure or the future of Duke Nukem Forever, it was confirmed on the company’s forum that they were closing shop. “It’s not a marketing thing. It’s true. I have nothing further to say at this time,” said Webmaster Joe Siegler.

The the handheld game, known as Duke Nukem Trilogy, is not suffering a similar fate of its console brother. “Deep Silver and Apogee Software are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms. Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned,” the company said in a statement to Game Freaks 365.
