Shiro Games and Funcom have released the gameplay trailer for Dune: Spice Wars, their forthcoming PC game that was announced at The Game Awards gala. Based on Frank Herbert’s seminal novel Dune, this real-time strategy game with 4X components is a must-have for fans of the genre.

Let’s get back to Arrakis

Dune: Spice Wars brings players back to the hostile world of Arrakis after nearly two decades. In this game, players must lead one of the major factions to power by controlling the universe’s most precious and strategic resource: spice. And, as we all know, if you have power over the spice, you have complete control over the cosmos.

Shiro Games and Funcom today revealed that players may expect to arrive on the planet Arrakis as early as this spring, as originally planned as an Early Access release for PC in 2022. The game will first be available on Steam in Early Access, with many significant upgrades planned, including multiplayer, extra factions, and a complete campaign.

“This is a universe we care deeply about, and there are millions of fans out there who feel the same strong connection with the source material as we do. We’re die-hard Dune and strategy nerds, so this is very much a game by fans, for the fans,” said Sebastien Vidal, CEO of Shiro Games, the studio that also developed the highly successful Northgard.

A new Dune game is on the way.

In addition to the Dune: Spice Wars new gameplay trailer, Dune fans are ecstatic that Funcom has revealed that an open-world survival multiplayer game set in the Dune universe is in the works. We should have more information on this project later this year.
