EA’s Tetris is getting pulled as new free-to-play Tetris is released on mobile

Electronic Arts’ Tetris game for Android and iOS will soon be unplayable.

The game will be “retired” on April 21, 2020. That’s right. Even if you purchased the game and it’s already installed on your Android, iPhone, or iPad, it will still be unplayable. That’s according to the official game page.

“We have had an amazing journey with you so far but sadly, it is time to say goodbye,” EA says. “We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of this game and we appreciate your ongoing support. Thank you!”

The removal of the game – which has been around since 2011 – apparently has to do with licensing issues. EA’s Tetris is currently available as a free-to-play game and as a Premium version for $1.99.

Fans who want to get their Tetris fix will have to download a new free-to-play version of the game that was just released from a company called N3twork. It’s available now at the App Store and Google Play.
