Exploding Kittens lands on Nintendo Switch

Exploding Kittens

The popular card game Exploding Kittens is making its way to video game consoles via the Nintendo Switch. In a surprise announcement, the game just launched.

Exploding Kittens started as a card game with a Kickstarter campaign. Seeking $10K through Kickstarter, the campaign raised an amazing $8.7M in 30 days from 219,000 backers. To date, Exploding Kittens is the #1 most-backed project in Kickstarter history and has sold over 11 million games.

For those who don’t know the game, Exploding Kittens is a multiplayer card game where players draw cards until someone draws an Exploding Kitten. Play your cards right to try to avoid, move, or defuse the Exploding Kitten. If you don’t explode, you win the game.

Kickstarter success

After the Kickstarter campaign’s success, the team behind the card game released an adapted mobile version. Since the release, this version amassed many active players. Apparently, the team behind the brand was not satisfied enough with their success and wanted to step up to consoles.

The Nintendo Switch – thanks to its portable tabletop and TV mode – makes for the perfect format. This version of the game includes the Streaking Kittens, Party Pack, Betrayal Pack expansions. You’ll also get exclusive cards and illustrations from The Oatmeal.

Exploding Kittens retails for $9.99 on the Nintendo eShop. The Switch version launched on April 8, 2021. The video game supports up to five players. You’ll need 268 MB of free space on your Switch.
