F-Zero has been a Nintendo favorite since the SNES days. Unfortunately the N64 versions weren’t up to par and the GCN version is still about 3 months away. The GCN version has received much praise and hype from both fans and game sites alike. Heck, I’ll be the first one to admit that I am ultra excited to get my hands on this game. I’m not traditionally a huge sports/racing game fan, but I do like some of the special ones. The only special ones are the ones that don’t play by the rules. F-Zero definitely doesn’t play by the rules, after all you can run into your opponents and blow up their race pod. How pleasant eh?
There are four different racers for you to pick from. Each of these racers has a different speed and weight, along with their own design. The racers themselves are great looking, but the background is a bit repetitive and has only a few colors.
There is regrettably no multiplayer, which was a mistake by the developer to leave out. Instead they created three different leagues along with three difficulty levels, so you adrenaline junkies can get your fix. Each course has a unique design and layout. The layout includes ramps and obstacles which can damage your racer.
The music is of course a classic. If you have ever played Super Smash Bros. Melee, you have heard the music from this game. You remember Captain Falcon right? Well, he is from this game and this is where he belongs. Of course the music sounds futuristic, but that is because it takes place in the future.
Another good feature is the controls, which are simple to use. All you do is press A to accelerate and use the joy pad to steer. F-Zero is one of the best racing games that I have ever played. Truthfully, even though it was made in the early 90’s, it feels great. This is a must-have for both racing fans and SNES owners.
