FIFA 23 cover features Sam Kerr, franchise's first female cover athlete

Electronic Arts has revealed the cover athletes for FIFA 23.

For the third year in a row, Kylian Mbappé is returning to the FIFA 23 cover, but this year he has some company. Sam Kerr is the first female athlete to be featured on a FIFA video game cover.

“Mbappé and Kerr will be featured on the title’s Ultimate Edition Global cover, marking the first global cover featuring a female player,” EA says. “Additionally, Mbappé will feature on the title’s Standard Edition, while Kerr will be featured on the Standard Edition in Australia and New Zealand, and as a worldwide Amazon exclusive.”

Kerr is a forward for Chelsea FC and one of the most-talented stars in the sport. She serves as the captain of the Australia Women’s National Team. She is the only female player to win the Golden Boot in three different leagues on three different continents.

“It’s an honor and a dream come true to be on the cover of FIFA 23,” Kerr said. “It’s been incredible to work with Kylian and the whole EA Sports team, and I can’t wait for fans to get their hands on a copy of the game.”

In related news, this is the final year for EA’s FIFA franchise. As we reported in May, EA no longer owns the naming rights for FIFA. Starting in 2023, the soccer franchise is getting rebranded as EA Sports FC.

The worldwide reveal of FIFA 23 is set for tomorrow. Fans can tune into the reveal trailer on July 20th at noon Eastern Time. We’ll let you know when we learn more about the game!
