Final Fantasy VII launches on Nintendo Switch

Twenty-two years after the launch of Final Fantasy VII, Square’s classic RPG finally makes its debut on a Nintendo console.

Final Fantasy VII has been ported to all manner of consoles and mobile devices – including PSP, PS3, PS4, PC, iPhone, and Android – but it’s never made an appearance on a Nintendo system. That changes today with the Nintendo Switch launch. (The game is also out today on Xbox One.)

Needless to say, this isn’t an earth-shattering release. The game is over 20 years old, and Square Enix is developing a remake for PS4. Still, it is a symbolic port more than two decades after Square switched allegiances and effectively gave Sony the upper-hand over Nintendo in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
