First Details: Xbox 360

If you were holding your breath for the Xbox 2’s (oops, Xbox 360’s) release information, design, and launch lineup, the wait is over. This evening a very pro-Microsoft program unveiled the Xbox 360 on MTV. On display was the system, along with a handful of short teasers, mainly of in-game videos.

Gameplay footage was low (most were in-game videos), but Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon 3 was one of the most promising titles, as well as Need for Speed Most Wanted. Many of the others seemed like they could work on a current-generation console put to their limits.

The games revealed include:

Perfect Dark Zero
Kameo: Elements of Power
Gears of War
Project Gotham Racing 3
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Madden NFL 2006
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006
Ghost Recon 3
Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland
Call of Duty 2
Quake 4

An updated Xbox.com website shows that the console will launch simultaneously in Japan, Europe, and the United States this fall. No pricing information has been giving on the console or its games, as of yet, though it is widely expected to be between $300 and $400 USD. Microsoft faces a grueling challenge to unseat the reigning champion Sony, who has sold nearly 90 million PS2’s this generation.
