For Reggie, The Question is When Wii Will Pass Xbox 360

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime spoke to Dean Takahashi of the San Jose Mercury News about a range of things. In the interview, he said that “the question is when” Wii passes the Xbox 360 in sales. “That’s going to be driven by our own sales rate and getting good software released at the right time. It’s clear they are slowing down. It’s not unthinkable to see that next year we could surpass their installed base,” Reggie said.

The Wii is already on its way to passing the Xbox 360 in global sales. According to vgcharts.com, the Nintendo Wii has sold 4.5 million since its November 19, 2006 launch, compared to 8.9 million for the year old Xbox 360. “We want to bring gaming back to the masses. Consumers are voting with their wallets and pocketbooks,” Reggie said. Whatever Nintendo is doing, it appears to be working.
