Gates Talks Xbox 2

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates told reporters Monday that he expected his company to overtake Sony as the market leader in the gaming industry. Gates said that several top employees involved with Xbox 2 had promised that Xbox 2 would beat Sony’s PlayStation 3.

“Our goal in the last generation was to be in the game,” Gates told reporters. “We came out of this round a strong number two.” While it is true that they have come out behind the PS2, it is important to note that the PS2 has seen sales of over 80 million, compared to around 20 million Xbox’s.

“What we’ve got in this, at some significant financial cost, was the right to play again with great credibility,” Gates said. “So now people are looking at the two companies at a pretty much equal basis.”
