This new indie got a lot of attention from gamers during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase event.
Dontnod and PortaPlay have presented their new project, Gerda: A Flame in Winter, during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase today. Gerda: A Flame in Winter is a narrative game with RPG mechanics and stunning imagery that transports us to the Nazi occupation of Denmark during World War II.
Complicated decisions in difficult times
In this moving game based on true events, we will step into the shoes of Gerda, a sick lady whose life has taken an unexpected turn during one of the most difficult times in history.
Gerda must struggle to save her loved ones while being true to herself, armed only with her wits and the wisdom of her society. A story portrayed in the intimate context of the small Danish community where she grew up, rather than on the front lines.
Gerda’s personality qualities are her abilities, and her relationships with others will influence how the story plays out. Exploration, dialogue, and resource and relationship management are all used to make decisions. In times of turbulence and war, every problem is a challenge, and every decision is crucial, and this game is always asking us a roundabout question: How far will we go for our loved ones? We’ll have to wait until next year to find out.
In 2022, Gerda: A Flame in Winter will be released on Nintendo Switch and Steam for PC.
