GoldenEye 25 remake’s Silo level demoed in new video

GoldenEye 25‘s developers recently released a video showing off their work so far on one of the more iconic levels in the game, a Soviet missile silo.

GoldenEye 25 is a fan-made remake of the classic Nintendo 64 shooter GoldenEye 007 using Unreal Engine 4. The demo is a faithful recreation of the Silo level from the N64 game.

“Finally we can present to you some gameplay footage of Silo,” the developers write, conceding that “we’ve still got a long way to go.”

So far, the environments and lighting look pretty good, but the enemy character models appear to be placeholders that look a lot like Agent 47. They also say that the remake will include a new soundtrack that takes inspiration more from the film than the N64 game.

The goal of the project is to remaster the entire single-player game and release it in August 2022, just in time for GoldenEye 007‘s 25th anniversary.

Of course, this isn’t the first remake of GoldenEye 007. Activision took a stab at it about a decade ago on the Wii and did a fairly decent job. That game was later ported to PS3 and Xbox 360 as GoldenEye 007 Reloaded.

Still, that game deviated quite a bit from the original game. It looks like GoldenEye 25 will try to stick closer to the N64 classic, at least as far as level design goes. If the project gets finished and doesn’t face legal action, it will be a great complement to the multiplayer-focused GoldenEye Source.
