Google Stadia now has a free version; Stadia Pro free for two months

Google Stadia

Google is trying to lure gamers to their struggling Stadia platform, which is now free to access. And to sweeten the deal, they’re throwing in two free months of Stadia Pro.

The streaming-only platform launched last November. All told, there were 22 games at launch, including some big names like Red Dead Redemption 2. The concept seemed somewhat promising, although it received mixed reviews.

Over the following weeks, Borderlands 3 launched; so did Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Darksiders Genesis. But the platform lacked exclusives, the games were expensive, and the Pro subscription didn’t have much value, leading our own Dylan Oliver to call Stadia a total bust.

The new offer tries to salvage the platform, although it might already be too late. Users can sign up for two free months of the Pro subscription with just a Gmail account. After that, you’ll have to pay $9.99 a month. Of course, you can cancel before you get charged.

Here’s the current list of Pro games that you can play:

  • Destiny 2: The Collection
  • GRID
  • Gylt
  • SteamWorld Dig 2
  • SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech
  • Serious Sam Collection
  • Spitlings
  • Stacks on Stacks (on Stacks)
  • Thumper
