How to get the Moonveil Katana in Elden Ring

This is a guide on How to get the Moonveil Katana in Elden Ring. Moonveil is one of the most popular weapons in Elden Ring and it’s widely used and loved by many players because of its power and versatility. Along with the Rivers of Blood Katana, Moonveil has received a relatively bad reputation because of its overpowered nature in PVP. But nonetheless, it’s still a worthy weapon that belongs in the arsenal of any Tarnished. Especially if you’re a collector of unique armaments, including this beauty is more or less essential. In this guide, I will include the location of the Katana, how to obtain it and also the required stats to use it.

The Gael Tunnel of Caelid

Along the border of Limgrave, which is the first region you will arrive at, you will find the rear entrance to the Gael Tunnel of Caelid. If you’ve progressed Alexander’s (the warrior jar) questline far enough, you will encounter him here. He is looking to enter the Caelid region via this tunnel and is temporarily stuck because the door is barred from the far side. You must simply enter the tunnel through the entrance in Caelid and open the door from there. The location of the entrance is given below.

I’m sure that exploring the tunnel will be of no hassle to you. I will not provide a descriptive guide on how to complete this dungeon because the way to obtaining the Moonveil Katana is fairly straightforward and simple. You must reach the end boss of this dungeon and simply defeat him to obtain the Katana.

Defeating the Magma Wyrm

Magma Wyrm is the end boss of the Gael Tunnel and defeating him grants you the Moonveil Katana. This enemy is very strong and resistant, but also somewhat slow. He’s weak to Magic damage, Lightning damage and Holy damage. Use one of these attack types to bring him down quickly. If you’re doing a sorcerer build, or utilise magic as a secondary offense, it will be quite easy to kill this dragon. You can also use the Flamedrake Talisman to withstand his fire attacks.

Upon defeat, he will drop a Dragon Heart, the Moonveil Katana and 7,500 Runes.

The Stats of Moonveil

The Katana deals 73 Physical damage and 87 Magic damage, at the base level. Along with this, it will also cause Blood Loss buildup with each attack for 50 points. Using Sombre Smithing Stones, you can upgrade this katana to +10 to get 178 Physical damage and 213 Magic damage. The Blood Loss buildup will remain at 50 points and not increase with the upgrades, however.

In order to use it, you must have at least 12 Strength, 18 Dexterity and 23 Intelligence. It scales with these three stats and especially effectively with Dexterity and Intelligence. So, this is the perfect weapon for a DEX INT build.

The Scaling of Moonveil is E in Strength, D in Dexterity and C in Intelligence at the base level. When fully upgraded, it will grant a scaling of B in both Dexterity and Intelligence. The Strength scaling will remain at the E tier, however, no matter the upgrade level.
