How to Say Goodbye is a story-driven puzzle game from Arte

How to Say Goodbye

How to Say Goodbye takes a poetic, hopeful, and heart-warming look at the subject of grief.

The French publisher and co-producer Arte, in collaboration with two amazing artists from the gaming business, Florian Veltman and Baptiste Portefaix, unveiled today their new forthcoming game, How to Say Goodbye. In a narrative puzzle game with incredible aesthetics, players will explore the concept of sorrow and loss.

It’s time to move on, buddy

Inspired by the golden period of children’s literature and illustrated books (such as Tove Jansson’s The Moomins, Antoine saint Exupéry’s Little Prince, and Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are), How to Say Goodbye deals with the issue of mourning with love and empathy.

The game recounts the narrative of a character who has lately been transformed into a ghost and is now trapped in an unfamiliar realm populated by ghosts. Players in this narrative puzzle game must assist the protagonists in escaping the transitional region between life and death in which they are confined.

To do so, the player can rearrange the décor components on a grid to direct the ghosts to the exit, which is represented by a door. The spirits in the game, still shaken by their recent deaths, make every effort to escape the limbo in which they are stuck. They will have to learn how to mourn together in order to accept their own death and go on.

How to Say Goodbye will be released on PC via Steam in 2022.
