The Director’s Cut may actually come to PC

There’s a high probability that the Director’s Cut will come to PC. We’re basing this conclusion on Sony’s recent track record of releasing PlayStation console exclusives on PC. In fact, they literally released Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PC this week. That’s not a one-off either.

Sony is leaning into the PC market. They keep releasing PlayStation exclusives on PC including Sackboy: A Big Adventure earlier this month. Other PlayStation PC releases include Marvel’s Spider-Man RemasteredGod of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn. Just like Ghost of Tsushima, these are major titles.

Microsoft has long supported both Xbox consoles and PC, which is not much of a surprise. They do own Windows, after all, so promoting Windows-based products is pretty natural for them. Sony was much slower to bring their console exclusives to PC. That has changed in recent years.

Do not expect an Xbox version

We have less confidence that Xbox will ever get a port. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is unlikely to come to Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S for a very simple reason: Xbox is a direct competitor for Sony. As a first-party publisher, they have no real incentive to strengthen a rival platform while weakening their own ecosystem.

At the moment, Ghost of Tsushima is part of the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium game lineup. If it were to come to Xbox Game Pass, for instance, this would mean one less exclusive both for the PS4 and PS5 game library as well as the PlayStation Plus lineup.

The death knell is the increasingly acrimonious relationship between Microsoft and Sony as Microsoft attempts to buy Activision Blizzard. Sony is encouraging government regulators to block that purchase on the grounds that it would stifle competition. Likewise, Microsoft accuses Sony of blocking Xbox Game Pass on PlayStation consoles. Needless to say, the two companies are not playing nice.

Of course, crazier things have happened. So maybe an Xbox version comes out eventually.
