It looks like GoldenEye 007 is coming to Xbox

GoldenEye 007

At least two Rare workers have acquired achievements from a mystery new remaster of GoldenEye.

Most of us are aware of the popularity and significance of GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64. It was supposed to return in a remastered form on Xbox 360 in 2010, but it has now been disclosed 12 years later that this legendary James Bond shooter is possibly coming to Xbox, as revealed in a listing of its online accomplishments on TrueAchievements.

Seems like 007 is coming back

Yes, a remastered version may be in the works at Rare. The game’s Achievements database has emerged on TrueAchievements, according to Twitter user Wario64, who is known for breaking news within the industry. This site pulls data and statistics from Xbox Live, and the vintage Nintendo 64 game has emerged on the site with more than 1000g in accomplishments rather than 200g, as was previously anticipated for Xbox Live Arcade.

According to the website, two people (BigSheep and Xtinamcgrath) have earned several accomplishments thus far. These Gamertags appear to be from Microsoft’s Rare studio’s engineer James Thomas and community manager Christina McGrath.

But wait… there’s more!

The list of Achievements suggests that the remaster is complete with the game’s single-player campaign and the famed multiplayer. For instance, you will unlock an achievement if you “play a multiplayer match on every map.” Hopefully, it has both split-screen and online multiplayer.

August 25, 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the game’s release, a significant milestone that is frequently recognized in the business. August 25 is a rather fortunate date to announce its comeback, especially when combined with the accomplishments leaked on TrueAchievements.

My Take

Certainly, this is not a firm confirmation. Still, it is the clearest evidence yet that the mothballed project may yet come to life for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players to enjoy this N64 classic. It’s especially appropriate for the 25th anniversary.
