Japanese Sales: August 1 – August 7, 2005

Sales of the top 100 titles totaled 1,523,560 units, 116.88% of last week’s total and 191.40% of the weekly average. Seventeen new releases took spots in the top 100, led by top-ranked World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 (PS2) and followed by titles including Grandia III (PS2), and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (GCN).

New titles accounted for 70.66% of sales, a high percentage, and World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 made up the majority of new title sales. The only Top 10 titles from last week in this week’s Top 10 are Super Robot Wars Alpha 3, Gentle Brain Exercises, and The King of Beetle Mushiking: Greatest Champion.

On the hardware side, Nintendo DS sales slipped a percentage point, while the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable saw small gains. For the first time in several weeks, combined sales of Nintendo’s three handhelds, the Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, and Nintendo DS were below a majority of overall hardware sales, standing just below 50% at 48.65%.
