Japanese Sales: December 12 – December 18, 2005

Nintendo has reason to celebrate this Christmas. 8 out of the Top 10 titles in Japan’s market rankings were on a Nintendo handheld this past week of 2,166,476 units sold in the Top 100, 121.76% of last week’s total. The top spot in the software charts happens to be a PS2 game, as well as the 9th spot, but all others belong on Nintendo handhelds. Nineteen new releases took spots in the top 100, accounting for 33.53% of sales.

Two returning Nintendo DS titles, both coincidentally compatible with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, have returned this week: Mario Kart DS and Animal Crossing: Wild World. Other returning titles include Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop (DS), Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon: Red Rescue (GBA), Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon: Blue Rescue (DS) and Rogue Galaxy (PS2). Also returning to the Top 10 from weeks prior to last week are DS Training For Adults: Work Your Brain and Gentle Brain Exercises (DS).

The PlayStation Portable comes in second on the hardware rankings at a little over 95,000. As a whole, Nintendo handhelds accounted for a commanding 71.37% of the overall hardware market.
