Japanese Sales: January 2 – January 8, 2006

Sales of the top 100 titles totaled 2,074,647 units, 76.81% of last week’s total. None of the new titles launched this week took spots in the top 100. DS titles performed particularly well with eight of the top ten software titles being DS titles. Nintendo DS hardware sales have been so strong that shortages have been reported across the country. Due to this, hardware sales declined this week, seeing the PlayStation Portable taking #1 for the first time in months. Nintendo made a formal apology this week as a result of the shortages. It is expected that a Nintendo DS redesign is planned for the near future.
