Japanese Sales: July 25 – July 31, 2005

Total sales for the top 100 Japanese titles stood at 1,303,525 units. Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 (PS2) was a driving force in the market, boosting figures to 176.96% of last week’s level and 174.92% of the weekly average. An upsurge in sales suggestive of the summer sales rush is finally underway. First-week sales of Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 totaled approximately 470,000 units. This solid start saw first-week sales surpass those of the previous title Super Robot Wars MX (385,000 units).

Twenty-six new releases ranked among the top 100 titles, with new titles taking up a share of 68.93%. Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 stood out in first place, and other titles including Let’s make professional baseball teams! 3 (about 58,000 units), Shadow Hearts: From the New World (about 52,000 units) and KAIDO: Touge no Densetsu (about 52,000 units) also delivered good sales performances. The Nintendo DS continues to dominate the handheld market, selling double that of the PSP this week. Combined sales of GBA, GBA SP, and Nintendo DS made up over 50% of total hardware sales in Japan this week. The PlayStation 2 dominated the console market, with GCN and Xbox trailing behind with 2.74% and 0.17% of overall hardware sales respectively.
