Japanese Sales: September 12 – September 18, 2005
Sales of the Top 100 titles totaled 1,233,131 units, a complete turnaround from the slump in sales last week. With the help of new titles, this week saw high figures that amounted to 309.62% of last week’s level and 159.08% of the weekly average. Last week’s highest seller, Fighting for One Piece, isn’t even present in this week’s ratings; nine of this week’s Top 10 have outperformed it.
Fifteen new releases made the Top 100, accounting for a high 76.96% of sales, up from last week’s 23.28% stagnant sales. Four games cracked the 100,000 mark, with another slightly below at approx. 96,000. The Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance are dominating forces in this week’s software sales with eight of ten spots. The PlayStation Portable, however, has managed to creak into the Top 10 for the first time in a while. Last week’s two returning titles include DS Training for Adults: Work Your Brain and Gentle Brain Exercises.
1. PS2 Dynasty Warriors 5: Mosho Den – 203,107
2. GBA Famicom Mini: Super Mario Bros. – 187,386

The number of Game Boy Micro units sold was 170,306 (GBA, GBASP and DS sold 531,298 units, 114,099 units and 468,883 units at launch). The Nintendo DS still outsold the PSP this week, although its lead has been trimmed by more than half. This shouldn’t concern Nintendo as combined unit sales of Nintendo’s handhelds have surged to 72.48% of the overall hardware market, thanks to the Game Boy Micro’s launch. The PlayStation 2’s market share for the week, 6.95%, is the lowest seen since we’ve been tracking Japanese sales, as is the Xbox’s 0.03%.
