Just Dance is single-handedly keeping the Nintendo Wii alive

Nintendo launched a motion-control console named the Wii way back in 2006. Nearly thirteen years later, developers have abandoned the top-selling console of its generation… except for Ubisoft, which is still making Just Dance games for the system.

Ubisoft confirmed during E3 that Just Dance 2020 is coming out this year for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and – yes, believe it or not – the Wii.

It’s a relatively minor announcement from the show, but it’s a curious one nonetheless. After all, the Wii is so dead that Nintendo gave up on the system almost seven years ago. The last Nintendo-published title released on Wii was a port of Pikmin 2 in 2012. Nintendo even killed the Wii Shop Channel the Wii’s online store, earlier this year.

In fact, Just Dance 2018 and Just Dance 2019 are the last two games to be released on the Wii. Unless Ubisoft has plans for a Just Dance 2021, Just Dance 2020 is likely to be the last officially-licensed third-party game on the Nintendo Wii, ending a historic era in video games.

If you want to dust off your Wii and get your groove on, you can pre-order Just Dance 2020 at Amazon.
