Konami announced today that players can finally piece together more of the Silent Hill mystery with the latest entry in the series, Silent Hill: Downpour, which is now available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Silent Hill: Downpour is being described by Konami as “the most expansive and horrifying Silent Hill to date.” The game follows a convicted felon – Murphy Pendleton – shortly after a freak accident interrupts his transfer to the Wayside maximum Security Penitentiary. Murphy wakes up in a forest next to the wrecked bus, and makes his way to freedom – unfortunately, he also heads straight for the sleepy town of Silent Hill.

“The SILENT HILL franchise defined the survival horror genre and is what all competitors have tried to emulate but never truly succeeded,” said George Richard, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Konami. “SILENT HILL DOWNPOUR is the latest and greatest addition, providing a cornucopia of psychological thrills, spine tingling thrills and jump out of your seat moments.”

Fans of the television series Dexter may be interested in the official Silent Hill: Downpour soundtrack; the music was composed by the show’s award-winning Daniel Licht. In addition, the feature title track “Silent Hill” was done by Korn’s Jonathan Davis. The Silent Hill: Downpour soundtrack will also be available in retailers this March.
