Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 delayed

In a brief video published today, Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma announced the delay of Breath of the Wild 2.

First announced at E3 2019 as the sequel to the popular open-world hit, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was a key pillar of the Nintendo Switch lineup in 2022.

“We previously announced that we were aiming for a 2022 release for this game,” Eiji Aonuma said. “However, we have decided to extend our development time a bit and change the release to spring 2023. For those of you who have been looking forward to [a] release this year, we apologize.”

“In order to make this game’s experience something special, the entire development team is working diligently on this game, so please wait a little while longer,” Aonuma added.

The delay blows a hole in the Switch lineup for this year. Fans can still look forward to games like Bayonetta 3, Mario Strikers: Battle League, Splatoon 3Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
