Nintendo announced Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 at this year’s E3. But what if instead of the Switch it was coming to the Nintendo 64?
One fan gives us a glimpse of what that game might look like. They remade this year’s E3 video using the low-poly 3D graphics of the N64. It looks more like Ocarina of Time or Majora’s Mask and less like Breath of the Wild, which is entirely the point.
“The video frames are natively rendered at 240×320 (4:3) resolution at 30 fps, but is intentionally frame posterized to show at 15-18 fps and enlarged with no anti-aliasing or image softening to 1920×1080 (16:9) for upload,” The Regressor writes on YouTube.
I love fan-created projects. Whether they are full games, fan art, or videos like this one that reimagine what modern games might look like on older consoles, these are positive contributions from the gaming community.
Now compare the fan-made trailer to Nintendo’s E3 trailer. Pretty good, isn’t it? I agree with the commenters on YouTube that the N64 demake looks scarier than the Switch version that’s actually in development.
