Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening: What to expect from the new Switch game

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is coming to the Switch this Friday. In anticipation of the launch, we thought we’d share what we know so far about the game.

Link’s Awakening was originally released on the Game Boy back in 1993. It was re-released on the Game Boy Color. Last year marked the Game Boy version’s 25th anniversary. Much of the Switch game remains loyal to the original.

In Link’s Awakening for the Switch, Link washes ashore on Koholint, a tropical island with multiple villages, sandy beaches, swamps, deserts, and forests. The thing about Koholint, though, is that legend holds that those who set foot on the island cannot leave.

To help him get off the island, Link will be equipped with his trusty sword and shield. If you’re a long-time Zelda fan, you’ll be used to items like the boomerang, hookshot, and bombs, which you’ll find along the way.

You’ll also need various other equipment throughout your journey. The Power Bracelet helps you lift heavy objects that are in your way. The Pegasus Boots let you dash. Other equipment helps you leap over chasm and swim.

As is always the case with a Legend of Zelda game, Link’s Awakening has several dungeons for you to explore. Each of them is filled with enemies and puzzles. What’s different in Link’s Awakening is that once you complete a dungeon and return to Dampé the Gravedigger, you’ll be able to rearrange the rooms to create your own dungeon.

That’s what we know about the game so far! The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is getting released on September 20, the same day as the Nintendo Switch Lite and a Link’s Awakening Amiibo, so there’s only a little under a week for fans to wait.
