LEGO teases new LEGO NES set as images leak online

LEGO NES set

LEGO and Nintendo continue their collaboration. The toy company teased an NES-themed LEGO set today.

LEGO’s official Twitter account teased the toy set with a darkened video. The tweet asks fans “Are you ready to play like never before?” while showing the outline of a LEGO toy set that you can clearly make out as the outline of a television with rabbit ears.

However, images leaked online before LEGO released the teaser. And those images have since been shared widely on the internet, including on large gaming sites – from Kotaku and Polygon to Game Informer.

NES turns 35 this year

Apparently, the toy set will include over 2,500 pieces. If the leaked image is accurate, it looks like fans will be able to build a Nintendo Entertainment System, a game cartridge, a classic NES controller, and a CRT television with LEGO bricks.

The timing of the new LEGO NES set is perfect. You see, 2020 is the 35th anniversary of the Nintendo Entertainment System in the United States. The console launched on October 18, 1985 in North America.

It also coincides with the release of another Nintendo-themed LEGO set. LEGO Super Mario is a new Mario-themed LEGO line that was revealed back in March. That set launches on August 1 for $59.99.
