Mario Kart Tour is out today on iOS and Android

Nintendo is leaning in on mobile games. Mario Kart Tour, out today, is their latest game to come to Android and iOS devices.

As we reported in August, the free-to-play mobile game has been in closed beta in select countries for Android. Now that it’s out, we know that you can play the 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc races for free, but 200cc races will cost $4.99 a month.

That’s really steep, but if you’re content with 150cc and lower, you should be fine to play for free. There are also microtransactions for purchasing drivers and parts for your kart. To be honest, this seems like a game that would be better suited for services like Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass.

I downloaded Mario Kart Tour this morning on my Android smartphone. The graphics look fantastic for a mobile game, but the controls are definitely iffy and there appear to be performance issues. Check back in a few days for our full review!

Mario Kart Tour is the third Mario-themed mobile game from Nintendo. The company has also released Super Mario Run and Dr. Mario World, which launched in July.
