Masayasu Ito resigns as Sony Interactive Entertainment representative director and deputy president

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the resignation of Masayasu Ito.

Masayasu Ito, the representative director and deputy president of Sony Interactive Entertainment in Japan, will resign from his position effective October 1. The company announced that Lin Tao will replace Ito. SIE also announced that Kiichiro Urata was appointed as director.

Ito is not a household name. However, he was an integral part of the PlayStation hardware team. Gematsu reports:

Ito oversaw hardware engineering and operations for Sony Interactive Entertainment, and played an integral role in the planning of various PlayStation hardware over the years, including PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR.

According to Bloomberg, Ito’s retirement is due to reaching the company’s mandatory retirement age. The publication included more information on Ito’s contributions to Sony over the years:

Ito was born in Kyoto in 1962 and joined Sony in 1986. After being involved in the design of car audio products, in 2000 he moved to Sony Computer Entertainment (now SIE), which handles the PS business. Since then, he has been involved in the development of PS hardware for many years.
